Living on the coast requires everything you put on the outside of your home to be resistant to salt air or you will be replacing those items within a year. The initial cost of installing copper or brass light fixtures will pay for themselves when you won't have to replace them year after year. Never purchase steel or tin fixtures. They will rust out and leave ugly rust streaks down your siding. Cast Aluminum fixtures will pit out and flake away, leaving an unsightly lantern. Plastic fixtures will dry out from intense sun and fall apart from coastal winds.
